How has the Bookstagram community changed your every day life? It still blows me away all the time how posting about books in this community has lead me to make amazing and true friends, learn so much about books, authors, and publishing, travel, pick up new hobbies, and feel more comfortable in my own skin than ever before. .

She flew to California to see The Cursed Child with me, and then we spent a fun week taking pictures together. And she’s just one of many amazing people I’d never have met without this community. .

I made this “invisibility cloak” inspired jacket because I follow

 . They are INCREDIBLE cosplayers and they make all their outfits. I’ve always wanted to sew my own clothes, but just never felt like I’d be able to. But watching them always show their techniques, struggles, and amazing outfits—with all the fun they have in them, it inspired me to try. Because of them, I’m constantly looking at things and thinking, “I’m going to try and make that” and I’ve sewn several things now, that while super amateur, I’m proud of. .

.malkins, who is also an incredibly talented cosplayer. His photos are magical and inspire me to have fun. Stephanie and I were spinning around, jumping, and running with plenty of strangers observing us. And it’s just something I’d never have done before, but these people have inspired me to make the magic I want to see in the world. .

I don’t read much fan fiction, but you better believe I invested a good chunk of time into Hermoine + Draco fan fic 🤣 Something about wanting that story to have happened plus being back at Hogwarts with a new plot had me searching the web for well written fic a couple years ago. (My favorite was “Isolation” by Bex-Chan) .

Outside of Harry Potter, since I just finished rereading “The Hunger Games” trilogy, I mostly just wish for Peeta to have ended up with anyone else than Katniss 😂😂 .

Of all the books, I think The Chamber of Secrets is the one I’m the most familiar with. My daughter is Dobby obsessed and I’ve seen the movie eleventy million times and probably read the book a dozen, so this was extra fun for me to open. .

YOU GUYS! Right off the bat my most favorite things were the Gilderoy Lockhart art and letter, the Moaning Myrtle toilet spray (I LOVE LOVE clever things, and this one knocked it out of the park with cleverness) and the basilisk fang bookmark. (got little Harry Potter tears in my eyes) but honestly, everything is so fun and awesome! I can’t wait to dump the bath fizz in the tub and see what happens. Do you know what you’d use a dose of Felix Felicis for if you were given a bottle? I could think of a few things I’d like to use it for, but ultimately after overthinking it for more time than I care to admit, I think I’d save it up for big emergencies—like if I needed to save someone in my family. Can you imagine giving a dose to a doctor performing surgery, a research/developer trying to create a cure for disease, or before rushing into a dangerous situation to save lives? .

Has anyone read Recursion by Blake Crouch? The more I think about things you could use potion that guarantees success for, the more I start thinking of that book and how out of control it could get. ha. I told you I was overthinking this. Leave it to me to take the use of a fictional potion seriously. .

If I’m not thinking of serious things, I’m thinking of really trivial things. Like, I’d take a little dose before sewing a gift for someone. That way my creation would be perfect and exactly as I envisioned,  perfectly suited and fitted for the person I was making it for. And I’d have no sewing machine problems and I wouldn’t have to unpick any stitches…. haha. .

A couple weeks ago I was talking with some friends about how to enter each House Common Room and we discovered that we only really knew the specifics on Ravenclaw, Slytherin, and Gryffindor. So today, inspired by the constellation scarf that came in my February

, I put together what I think my desk would look like in the Ravenclaw Tower and to talk about how to enter each Hogwarts House. .

Gryffindor: Located on the Gryffindor Landing, to enter you must present the Fat Lady portrait with the correct password of the week. .

Ravenclaw: Located on the west side of Hogwarts at the top of a spiral staircase, a door with no doorknob or keyhole, but a bronze knocker in the shape of an eagle, one can only enter by answering a riddle asked by the eagle knocker. .

Slytherin: In the dungeons, one must use the correct password (although I did once hear you must whisper it to the correct wall) .

Hufflepuff: Concealed beneath a stack of barrels in a nook on the right side of the kitchen corridor, one must tap the barrel two from the bottom, middle of the second row, in the rhythm of “Helga Hufflepuff”. (fun fact, Hufflepuff is the only house to have a defense mechanism for an incorrect entry attempt. If you get it wrong you are doused in vinegar.) .

The location of the common rooms, other than your own, is generally a secret. (Harry and Ron were the first nonSlytherins to enter the Slytherin common room in over seven centuries.) .

It’s a busy day today for those of us who are going

! If I were really going back, I’d be rushing around trying to get my potions kit packed up since I’d have everything spread out around my room from practicing all summer. Got to bottle potions that have been maturing for the last month before I go, too. 😂 .

But for real... guys, I’m convinced that Potions would have been my favorite Hogwart’s class and, that at my year in Hogwarts, I would have already begun amassing a collection of ingredients for my own personal kit. (just need to find a bezoar to add) .

With Harry Potter’s birthday just around the corner and all the

 magical edition Year Six shipping news, today just called for a Harry Potter post! Even though you cannot choose your animagus, lets pretend that we can. 😂⚡️ If you were an animagus, what animal would you turn into? .

I’m sort of torn. I’d like maybe a raven for the ability to fly, a fox just because I love foxes, and something small, like a beetle or a bee that can be easily concealed somewhere. I suppose if mine mimicks my patronus, which they often do, then mine is a black mare and that automatically rules me out from being sneaky or being able to enter buildings. 😂😐. .

Now, if you want to work on becoming an Animagus, here are the steps: First you must hold a mandrake leaf in your mouth for an entire month. (That sounds hard and like a sleeping choking hazard, but if Peter Pettigrew could do it, so can we.) You must recite the incantation “Amato Animo Animato Animagus” on a daily basis. (How’s that for a daily affirmation). At the next visible full moon you must spit the leaf into a vial within the range of the moon’s pure rays. (If it’s a cloudy night, you have to start the whole process over again 🙃). To the moon-struck vial you must add one of your own hairs, a silver teaspoon of dew that has not seen sunlight or been touched by human feet for seven days, and the chrysalis of a death’s head hawk moth. THEN you must put it in a quiet, dark place until an electrical storm. (And until this happens you need to keep up with the incantation chant daily with the tip of your wand placed over your heart.) Once a lighting storm hits, run to your vial and take it to a secure place. Recite the incantation on last time and drink up! .

And I think I would feel the most awesome saying I was Quidditch Captain at Hogwarts. (Even though my team is Ravenclaw, I’ll root for the Gryffindor team any day.) .

I actually checked out the Portuguese version of The Philosopher’s Stone so I could brush up on my Portuguese. For me, I find it’s really helpful to read a book I’m familiar with in the language I’m studying. Since I already know what’s going on, it’s easier for me to understand why certain words and contexts are used in the other language. It’s been good quarantine study for me and challenges my brain in a fun way. I only wish there was a Portuguese audiobook for it so I could practice the hearing part too! I’ve been considering trying the Spanish audiobook to see how that goes! haha. I figure why not have a fun look around and try all the editions while we have free and unlimited access to them. .

They share physical similarities, naturally red hair, passion for sweets, and also noted that when Dumbledore says he sees himself holding socks in the Mirror of Erised, it ties back to Ron never appreciating his mum’s Christmas socks. .

I don’t believe this theory has much merit as far as I can throw Hagrid, but it is an interesting one! There are just too many holes in it— especially given how much of Dumbledore’s family life plays into the books and the new Fantastic Beast films. I’ve had a piece of chocolate already this morning, I’m going to start reading “This Mortal Coil” today (a book I’ve been meaning to read for awhile) and my library hold for the audio of “The Two Towers” came in last night! .

My most recent pondering on fictional things is couple patronuses. Like how James and Lily were considered soulmates because of their matching Stag and Doe patronus forms. As well as how Tonks Patronus changed form to match Lupin after she fell in love with Lupin. Do you think wizards and witches would list their patronus form on their dating profiles? Haha. I don’t think my husband and I would have matching patronuses. We are so opposite in a lot of ways. But I do like to imagine we have a Ron and Hermione vibe going— the kind that compliment each other rather than being a perfect match. .

EXPECTO PATRONUUUM! Do you ever wonder how you’d do at spell casting? Like, everyone was so impressed that Harry could cast such a strong patronus already (and then there is Seamus Finnigan always blowing his face up.) .

Even though Harry’s birthday was yesterday, the real party is at my house tonight! We are eating the cake I made, playing book related games, and dressing up as our some of our favorite book characters! (I’m going to pull out my blonde wig and be Annabeth from Percy Jackson). Do you like to read books about celebrities/political figures type people? Which ones have you read? Was it worth reading in your opinion? My very first inclination is to skip over them, but the truth is I do like reading biographies and memoirs of people that I admire or I find intriguing, even if I don’t pick them up often. And I’d be lying if I said I didn’t seek out “the tea” or gossip every now and then for those same people. .

I keep wondering if I’d have read “The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore”. It’s hard to see your heroes fall! (Even considering the reliability of the author) My picture of Dumbledore certainly did change a lot in the final two books of Harry Potter. It even tainted how I view young Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts films and question all of his motives. .

 7.1 magical crate, and I’m obsessed with it. My notebook demon rose up in absolute glee when I pulled this out of the box. I have journals for all sorts of things, but this one is absolutely going to be a diary for me. Maybe some day after I’m gone someone will find it and read about the life and lies about me in it. Happy first day of term, friends! Hope everyone is having a safe journey back to Hogwarts today. To be honest, I’m just five short years away from my own kid turning 11 😂 so one of these days I’m going to have to face reality and realize that celebrating the return to Hogwarts is going to be more about me sending a kid to school than me getting my own trunks ready 😂👵🏼🧙🏻‍♀️ .

But maybe this is one of the reasons that I love books so much. That even though the older I get and the more life experiences I bring into my reading experience— the books of my childhood will always transport me back. .

So that means today I still plan on hitting up the trolley for some pumpkin pasties and chocolate frogs to tide me over until we get to the feast. I’ll cheer for all the new Ravenclaws we get, and then spend the rest of the night hanging out with friends and preparing for my favorite classes—Potions, Herbology, and Divination. Do you know what you’d see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised? Don’t worry, I’m not asking you to tell specifics if you don’t want to. I bought this mirror this past week and while I was figuring out how I wanted to display it I was thinking about the things that I would see in the Mirror. For me, it was actually a kind of depressing conversation with myself. 😂😂 There are a lot of desires that come from a sad place and some of mine were sad. .

Then I remembered Dumbledore and how he told Harry that the happiest man on earth would be able to use the Mirror of Erised like a normal mirror. He would look into it and see himself exactly as he is. And even though this is 100% a muggle mirror I bought at Target, I was looking into it and obviously only seeing myself. And I was like, this mirror is telling me I’m the happiest person on earth. 😂. And instead of thinking about all the things I desired, I started thinking about all the amazing things that do make me the happiest and luckiest right now. .

Since this week is Thanksgiving here in the United States, it was a good way for me to focus on what I’m thankful for. Thank you to this community for your friendship and book recommendations. Last year I read that wizard children can attend local Muggle primary school before going off to Hogwarts and I have since thought that would have been the perfect school situation for me. 😂😂 Get in enough math before ditching the whole thing for potions. .

I’ve always wondered if there were more classes at Hogwarts that fit a muggle curriculum. Like, is there AP style for The Daily Prophet, or what? And what class do I sign up for to learn that? Or do the magic quills stand in as writers and copy editors? So many questions about fictional worlds 😂😂 .

Literally my favorite series in the entire world. I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t start reading Harry Potter. It has made me love reading.
