✨Category is … found family✨ I LOVE a found family. It’s one of my favourite things to read and when it’s surprisingly in a book it automatically makes the book one of my favourites. Earthlings may be a bit of a stretch but stay tuned as to why I think it fits the trope. 🧙🏻♀️ Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend. This is a middle grade fiction that I’ve recommended before, but it’s the ultimate girl is hated by family girl gets whisked away by mysterious stranger girl finds her place with new pals. We love to see it. Nevermoor is also magical and whimsical and a good lockdown read if you have kids that are ages 8+ and also if you’re an adult like me with no kids and just wanted some magic in your life. 🪞 Lonely Castle in the Mirror by Mizuki Tsujimura (translated by Phillip Gabriel). If you haven’t seen or read me banging on about this book then where have you been. Unless you’re new here (hi!) this is the best book I’ve read this year so far!! Again it’s magical and whimsical but it’s magical realism and it’s about a group of teens who are bullied and find themselves in a castle in their mirror. Be warned, the end of this one had me sobbing. But Kokoro and co found their way into my heart and haven’t left since. 🚂 One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston. A hint of sci-fi, a sapphic romance, diversity, and found family. Are you hooked yet? The focus in OLS isn’t just on Jane and August, it’s also on their merry bunch of housemates and workmates and how they band together to achieve greatness. Another one that had me crying at the end because of the family aspect. 👽 Earthlings by Sayaka Murata (translated by Ginny Tapley Takemori). Okay okay I know. If you’ve read this you’re maybe like … what? I think the main character finds her people if you will by the end. This one is wild. Check my review post for CW bc there’s a lot!! There’s an obvious book series missing here but we love to support our trans pals so there’ll be none of that on my page. So is my quest to replace that series with other books with this trope. What are your favourite found family books/series?!
