Heyyyyyyyyyy Henny, the other day I heard a whisper that said it was time to read another Morrison novel. Literally in the middle of brushing my teeth, something told me that it was time to read Jazz. So I dropped everything that I was reading (as you should when you hear that Morrison whisper) and began this book, officially starting my post-Beloved journey with Morrison. Well...I just finished reading Jazz today and once again Morrison slayed and shook me to my core. In Jazz, Morrison examines love and all of its branches very closely. The novel revolves around a man who shoots his lover and his wife who attacks the girl’s corpse at the funeral. I promise I’m not spoiling anything, this is literally the synopsis and how the novel opens lol 😂. This entire novel is perfection! What else can you expect from Morrison? Jazz is just a blessing to read. I will say that this book is way more than a complex love story. I was stunned by the description of the city and urban life in this novel. We do get some of this in Tar Baby, but in Jazz, Morrison writes about the city and urban life with so much love that it radiates off the page. It’s beautiful to read. I also want to add that the narration in this novel was brilliant. I was getting my post-modernism life with that narrator. The best way I’ve seen it executed. Sorry, Paul Auster 😭😂. Overall, all I can say is that Toni Morrison is truly unmatchable. She is just the QUEEN. I know that every time I open one of her books I will be blown away and taken to Jupiter. Other than that, have you read Jazz? Let’s talk down below Henny! 👀👀
