✨Review✨In the Woods ~ Tana French TW: child sex abuse, child murder, domestic abuse. I didn’t love it, I didn’t hate it. But I think I’m leaning more towards the did not like end of the spectrum. Something was off about it. One thing I did like is that it showed what unresolved trauma can do and how it can impact people. It had two separate storyline’s going on which I thought would intersect a bit more. And the ending left a bit to be desired. The perspective was off, it was from the POV of a male detective and I found that a bit odd. I would have preferred it from the female perspective, I think it would have made for a better read and would have made it less weird. It shifted how the story was being told and it seemed like it was breaking the fourth wall and halfway through I was convinced it was going to be some sort of letter to someone. Because of this it was too long, it could have cut out about 100 pages and it still would have communicated the point. The writing was good, it was just too long winded and even though I love character driven plots, there was no real development. And the chapters. Lord they were so LONG. They were a slog to get through and the last 30 pages seemed redundant. It reminded me of Jane Harper style novels, just not as well written. Not really a psychological thriller like the blurb suggests, more of a slow burn crime.
