✨Review✨Solitare ~ Alice Oseman My second Alice Oseman novel after Heartstopper and how nice was it to return to the Nick and Charlie universe! Although this book is much darker and definitely took me a lot longer to get through. It follows Tori (Charlie’s sister) and we get a glimpse into what her life is like. She very obviously has an undiagnosed mental illness and at times I was over identifying with her and her inner monologue. I think the reason I had to read it so slowly is because of being so similar as a teen was too much all at once. I did find the main plot of the Solitaire blog a bit odd and distracting from the character development of Tori, and co. But that is entirely because I prefer character driven novels and not plot. I did love getting the other side of Nick and Charlie and how a sibling mental illness can impact on others. Definitely don’t expect a super upbeat story, it does get dark. It’s also her debut novel and I didn’t find the writing as great as Loveless, but I guess that just shows how much it’s improved with the books in between. I’m definitely looking forward to reading her others. TW: depression, anxiety, homophobia, disordered eating behaviour, self harm, suicidal thoughts.
