GROUP by Christie Tate I feel like I’m at a standstill with my thoughts on this book. I saw a lot of concerning reviews about this book before I picked it up and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t go into this with some bias. On the other hand, as this is a memoir, I’m would never want to discredit or invalidate someone else’s personal story and account. On top of that, therapy is something personal and varies person to person. Since I’m not a licensed professional, I can’t speak to ethics of the therapy that the author recounted. With all of that being said, I really appreciated this first hand account of group therapy. I appreciate that the author opened herself up with such an intimate experience and allowed us see her experience through her eyes. Despite the unconventional and sometimes seemingly inappropriate methods of therapy, I felt like this was positive testimony to the benefits therapy can have on your well-being.
