✨Review✨ The Survivors ~ Jane Harper The queen of Australian crime has done it again! @janeharperauthor has quickly become one of my favourite authors and I would read her shopping list just to get more of her writing. The Survivors is set in coastal Tasmania and one thing Harper does so so well is creating the landscape. It feels like you’re right there in all of her novels and this one was no exception. It is a slow burn like all three other books, but I love a slow burn and I think it is my favourite of her four novels so far. The Survivors has a plot that I was interested in coupled with her brilliant writing. The way that the past of the storm and disappearance of a girl was woven into the present day plot of a beach murder was done seamlessly. As I’ve said Harper really builds the landscape, to the point where it really does almost become its own character. I loved that it was set from the perspective of a lay person and not a detective, I think this really helped show how grief can impact people and I don’t think some parts would have been as heartbreaking if shown through the eyes of a detective. Although I do love me some Aaron Falk. Some people didn’t like the end and felt it was rushed, but I really like books that just end. Where we get to make our own interpretations of them. I will say though, the past murder was a bit undercooked and could have had a few more clues leading up to the last few pages where it’s revealed. But I can’t wait to see/read what she does next, or how they bring this one to life on the screen. I read this as part of @wattleandfernbookclub and really enjoyed the conversations around it with everyone!
