✨Review✨ Rolling with the Punchlines ~ Urzila Carlson I love a memoir, and this was no exception. I always go into comedian memoirs thinking they will be all sunshine and roses and I’m always surprised when they’re not. This is told in Carlson’s humour and I could hear her voice as I was reading it. But it also was heartbreaking in parts. And educational in others. I don’t know a lot about apartheid or South Africa but I know a bit more after reading this and a persons experience while it was happening. I definitely need to go and educate myself more. I love hearing people’s stories about how they found their careers, and how Urzila got into comedy was amazing. It also makes me so sad that she was/is subject to so much online harassment. I saw her at the Melbourne Comedy Fest in 2018, and have watched her on HYBPA for years! And if you haven’t watched her lockumentary series on her instagram you’re missing out 😂 If you’re a fan of her or even if you’re not I highly recommend reading this one.
