Heyyyyyyyyyyy Henny, Happy Saturday!! This year I told myself to start reading more poetry because some of my favorite books have come from poets. Saeed Jones, Ocean Voung, and Elizabeth Acevedo are originally from the poetry world. Even though I never really liked poetry before, I still wanted to dive deep into some poems because of the language. So far this year I’ve read a few collections of poems which have all been wonderful. The chills that I get from reading some poems is one of the many reasons why I’m now reading at least one book of poems a month. This month I’m starting Postcolonial Love Poem by Natalie Diaz which I found through one of my deep dives into the internet one day lol 😂. So far I’ve read 20 pages in this collection and all of them have been amazing so far! I also found out that Roxane Gay read and reviewed this one. Here is what she said: “A remarkable poetry collection. There is such range in these poems, stylistically, thematically...Diaz has one hell of a vocabulary and the sound and feel of her language offers such pleasure. This is a trenchant work about culture and water and oppression and desire and family and lineage. The longer poems are really something special.” Clearly, I did the right decision in getting this underground collection of poems haha 😆. So this entire weekend you should find me between these poems Periodttttttt. Other than that, I hope everyone has a beautiful weekend! Do you read poetry? What are some of your favorite poets/ poetry collections?
