I got RAINBOW by Verde Arzu in the mail the other day and read it all immediately. Maybe it was because it’s 87 pages but considering I haven’t completed a single other book this month (😅), I’m happy I read at least one. RAINBOW follows Taylor and Melony, two college girls, as they navigate their relationship and sexuality both internally and externally. I really enjoyed this story; the representation of Black lesbians and the struggle and fear of coming out and being your true self. My only complaint was the length. I’m starting to learn that maybe novellas aren’t the format for me. In-depth character development in books is super important to me and I typically don’t get that in under 100 pages. I really would’ve loved this story to be just a little more rounded out full to be a little more immersed in it. But all in all, I still really appreciated the message and representation and would definitely recommend this if you like condensed storylines. Do you read/ enjoy novellas? If so, what are some of your favorites?
