Heyyyyyyyyyy Henny, Happy Wednesday! The weekend is almost here, we can do this. So this past week I haven’t been able to read not one page, but I’m going to keep pushing. Y’all know how I be lol 😂. I’m still in the middle of Another Country, don’t judge me. I’m really enjoying this book but with what’s been happening here and the world my head is somewhere else. I want to take the time today to talk about the level of ignorance that has been showing up here lately. It’s really disgusting when someone says that “they need to take a break from bookstagram because they feel out of place.” I’m all down for a social media break because of mental health, but there is a difference between a mental health break and leaving because you feel uncomfortable. It’s super ignorant to say that this space has changed and wish for this space to go back to what it used to be. That’s when you admit that you were never listening and proving that posting the black screen didn’t mean anything. When you say that you are “tired” you are instantly being put on the side of ignorance. You aren’t tired. You aren’t exhausted. You don’t know what being tired is. The reality is that we need you in order for change to happen. We need you to have conversations with your white peers. You need to do the work and getting uncomfortable is the way to start. Don’t reach out to Black bookstagramers to educate you. This is something that you need to do yourself. At the end of the day, you can do whatever you feel like with your corner of the internet but the minute you unfollow or block someone because they “make you feel uncomfortable” you are showing your white fragility. Your white privileged is crystal clear when you do that. That’s it for me today, y’all know I always have something to say lol 😂. Take care, Henny!
