How do you keep your reading routine exciting? I know the obvious answer is to read books you are excited about. But honestly, who here is pleasure reading a book they aren’t excited about? (Put that thing down and get a different book) . When you’re consuming as many books as most of us are each year, some genres make it hard not to eventually feel like every book is the same. For me, I like to rotate regularly through middle grade, young adult, and adult books (and illustrated editions). I try to read one or two non fiction a year (usually they are memoirs, but right now I’m listening to “Dare to Lead” by Brené Brown.) but I think discovering audiobooks a few years ago—especially if the narrator is good or it has a full cast and music, has been my favorite way to pump me up. . When fantasy starts weighing me down (no matter how much I love it, the mental effort of hanging on to all the magic system/world building rules can get exhausting after 1,000 pages) I know that I need a break and I grab a contemporary. Contemporaries always make me feel like I’ve taken load off my mind just by not having to bear the intricacies of world building. . What about you? What kind of books do you reach for when you realize you need to shake things up? . #thewonderling #mirabartok #middlegradebooks #fantasy
