Tell me one thing you are grateful for today. As I was picking up the WWII themed books to post today and reading the synopsis of each, it reminded me of all the things I take for granted as I read about the suffering caused by war. Today I am grateful for breakfast pizza, for a roof over my head, and friends who pick the best gifs in response to text messages. . I thought I’d do a little round up of some of the WWII books that have been gifted to me by the publisher recently that I want to read. I read a lot of historical fiction, and most of it is WWII. These are a few on groups, or with perspectives, I haven’t read or heard of before. . 📖 “The War Outside” (YA historical fiction) The War Outside is a YA novel that could easily cross over to adult. Set in 1944, Margot and Haruko are both interned in Crystal City, a camp for not only Japanese Americans during World War II, but also Germans who are suspected of being Nazis. . 📖“We Must Be Brave” (Adult historical fiction ) In the spirit of We Were the Lucky Ones and The Nightingale, here is a novel about courage and kindness, hardship and friendship, and the astonishing power of love. Spanning the sweep of the twentieth century, We Must Be Brave explores the fierce love that we feel for our children and the power of that love to endure. . 📖 “White Rose” (YA historical fiction) A gorgeous and timely novel based on the incredible story of Sophie Scholl, a young German college student who challenged the Nazi regime during World War II as part of The White Rose, a non-violent resistance group. . 📖 “Madame Fourcade’s Secret War: The Daring Young Woman Who Led France’s Largest Spy Network Against Hitler” (nonfiction) The dramatic true story of Marie-Madeleine Fourcade--codename Hedgehog--the woman who headed the largest spy network in occupied France during World War II . #historicalfiction #thewaroutside #wemustbebrave #whiterose #madamefourcadessecretwar #lynneolson #monicahesse #kipwilson #francesliardet #nonfiction #typewriter #historicalfictionnovel #bookrecommendations #history #historylover #herstory #womenwholead #fempire
