Every time I look at the cover of “Crown of Feathers” I3/18/2021, 5:05:05 PM
Every time I look at the cover of “Crown of Feathers” I think of Luna Lovegood’s riddle to enter Ravenclaw tower “which came first, the phoenix or the flame?” (Which she answered “I think the answer is that a circle has no beginning.”) I always think I want to be a dragon rider. Perhaps a giant eagle or a griffon. But I’d never considered a Phoenix until this book and I’m kind of living for it. (Thank you to @simonteen for gifting me this copy) . This one sounds a bit Mulan-inspired, and I keep having friends ask me if I’ve read it yet, so I figured that if it’s going to keep coming up like this then I need to move it up my TBR asap! (Even while listening to audio during the day and reading in the evenings, I can’t keep up with everything I want to read. But I guess the challenge we bookworms accept is that we. will. keep. trying. haha) Anyway, I always got the impression that there was only one living phoenix/firebird in the myths, so I like the idea that there are many in “Crown of Feathers”. Have you read this one yet? What did you think? . Synopsis: I had a sister, once…In a world ruled by fierce warrior queens, a grand empire was built upon the backs of Phoenix Riders—legendary heroes who soared through the sky on wings of fire—until a war between two sisters ripped it all apart. I promised her the throne would not come between us. Sixteen years later, Veronyka is a war orphan who dreams of becoming a Phoenix Rider from the stories of old. After a shocking betrayal from her controlling sister, Veronyka strikes out alone to find the Riders—even if that means disguising herself as a boy to join their ranks. But it is a fact of life that one must kill or be killed. Rule or be ruled. Just as Veronyka finally feels like she belongs, her sister turns up and reveals a tangled web of lies between them that will change everything. And meanwhile, the new empire has learned of the Riders’ return and intends to destroy them once and for all. Sometimes the title of queen is given. Sometimes it must be taken.
