This is one of the months where I wanted to pick every @bookofthemonth selection for myself. But last year's Book of the Month book pick of the year was John Boyne's "Heart's Invisible Furies" and I just couldn't resist picking his latest, "Ladder to the Sky" based on his acclaim and the synopsis (below) . This month's selections were: The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory, Nine Perfect Strangers by Lian Moriarty, Unsheltered by Barbara Kingsolver, A Ladder to the Sky by John Boyne, and For Better and Worse by Margot Hunt. I mean, talk about a powerful author line up!! . "A Ladder to the Sky" is basically about a man who will stop at nothing in his pursuit of fame. He's handsome and charming, but he doesn't really have any talents. So working as waiter in a West Berlin hotel in 1988, he engineers a perfect opportunity-- a chance encounter with celebrated novelist Erich Ackermann. He quickly integrates himself with the man and gets out a terrible, long-held secrets about his activities during the war that he uses for his first novel. Once he's had a taste for the fame the novel brings him, he moves from place to place as he hones his talent for deceit and manipulation of the talented and vulnerable in his cold-blooded climb to the top. . I think the idea is something everyone can relate to in different ways. Stealing ideas, the endless pursuit of likes and fame... I'm interested in seeing how this novel plays out! . What are you reading today? Which of this month's picks are you anticipating the most? . #botmbookbassador #bookofthemonth #aladdertothesky #johnboyne
