This book was a nice little reminder why I double check the locks in my house every night. 😳 It’s been awhile since I’ve read a thriller, mostly because they leave me paranoid (see previous sentence). Anyone else ever get this way? . I received this free copy of “Something In The Water” from @reesesbookclubxhellosunshine , since it’s their June read and I decided that I wanted to join in. . In a spoiler-free nutshell, a couple (Erin and Mark Roberts) goes on their honeymoon to Bora Bora and discovers SOMETHING IN THE WATER. 😂👍🏼 They are faced with two choices: to speak out or protect their secret. And their decisions lead them down a slippery slope of one devastating event after another. After all, this book does open up with our protagonist digging a grave. (then we go back in time and learn all the events that lead to the grave digging.) . The whole synopsis of this book has been crafted to leave what they discover a secret from the reader until you get there yourself, so it’s hard to explain the one thing that kind of burned me for most of the book. But it was one of those things where I wanted to shake Erin and scream “WHY ARE YOU AN IDIOT?” It was hard for me to sympathize with the fall out some times because of that moment. Even still, the fact that this couple could be just about any of us made the whole reading interesting because it makes you really wonder what you could be capable of if caught in the wrong scenario. . I wasn’t a big fan of the twist because I thought it was a stretch. The best part of a twist is when it blows your mind and suddenly your whole view of the events in the story get flipped into this backward clarity. While all the clues had been laid, I didn’t think they were strong enough for me to believe it. The author even had to set aside some time to lay it all out so that it could be plausible. . I do recommend as a book club book though. There is so much to talk about concerning the evolution of the characters in their dilemma. You won’t be lacking discussion, that’s for sure! Good for a beach read or book club, even though I wasn’t totally on board with the twist. #somethinginthewater
