Officially my favorite book, so far, of 2018 and now one of my favorite books ever. I loved “Uprooted”, but man did I love this one so much more. Haha. . This is NOT a sequel to Uprooted. (I think the covers looking somewhat similar was maybe just a branding choice 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️) So for anyone thinking they have to read Uprooted before this, you do not have to! . I’m actually not going to say tooo much about this read. It’s better if you don’t know. I was delighted by some of the notable surprises in this story (that normally I’d mention in my review) but some of these I think would be minor spoilers. So I’ll say this: this is a loose retelling of Rumplestilskin about a Jewish moneylender, but told from multiple perspectives. . The crazy part about the multiple perspectives is that there isn’t anything to indicate who is speaking before you begin a new voice— but Novik is clever enough that it’s either clear immediately, or very quickly into the paragraph, who it is. I was never confused as to who was speaking, even when the POV kind of came out of nowhere as someone we hadn’t heard from before. . I loved the devotion to faith, the world that was fairytale, historical, and fantastical at the same time, the clever and fierce females who lead this story, and the fun way Novik incorporated elements from Rumplestilskin. . I think my only complaint was near the end, when this steady moving story kind of goes from 25 to 80 mph and there were a few things happening that made me realize I didn’t really understand one of the enemies enough to get what was happening. A lot of things were happening in a rush there that I didn’t think I was prepared for as a reader, so I had more questions in my head that threw me out of the story. . Overall, this story was exactly my speed and everything I love in a story, in all the balances that I love. Hands down one of my all time favorite reads. I want a sequel sooooo hard. SOOOO HAAAARD!!! Dear Naomi Novik, continue this story and take me baaaack please! #naominovik #spinningsilver #uprooted #bookreview #amreading
