Hood Feminism by Mikki Kendall | 5 ⭐️ #mentallybookedreviews I’ve delayed this review for a while because I honestly don’t know where to start with it. This is such an important read about the feminist movement and the importance of intersectional solidarity. Mainstream feminism often ignores the daily hurdles of women whose struggles intersect with race, socio-economic status, education, and access. Kendall does such a great job of addressing these issues, not to place blame or fault, but raise awareness on the grittiness of a movement that is often glamorized.⁣ Feminist issues include more than the wage gap amidst those employed in the corporate work space. It reaches into food insecurity, access to medical care, access to quality education, the ability to simply provide for yourself and your family, the need to feel safe in your environment. It could be said that these are human issues outside of the feminist scope, which is 100% true. However when we say “women supporting women”, it’s more than patronizing women-owned businesses; these are issues that should be fighting to be improved upon. ⁣ Thank you @vikingbooks for sending me this copy and thank you @karnythia for writing this! #HoodFeminism
