Do you read the book before seeing its film? Or do you not

Do you read the book before seeing its film? Or do you not mind watching the film first and then picking up the book after? I discovered the Shadowhunter world AFTER seeing the film, “City of Bones”. I remember watching the movie and wondering if it was based on a book because there seemed to be a lot that the producers expected me to already know. I googled it immediately after and found that it WAS a book and 8 years and 18 books later this is one of favorite favorite fictional worlds. . Happy release week to “Chain of Gold”! Seriously one of the best books I’ve read in awhile. Even though you could read each separate series within the Shadowhunter saga individually, I love that they all fold in on each other in some way. Characters that show up in every book, history mentioned, connections, family trees…this is my favorite thing about these books. They always feel like a homecoming because you know so much history. You can remember the past, see how something affected the future, compare ancestors, you’re in on all the references and inside jokes… it’s the only series that I never want to end! . I’m not going to say too much about “Chain of Gold” other than it’s already in my top 10 of 2020 reads. I loved nearly all the characters, I loved being in the (Will+Tessa) Herondale home and seeing their family dynamics. If you have not read any of the Shadowhunter books and feel daunted by the amount of books there are— it highly recommend starting with the Infernal Devices trilogy and then picking up “Chain of Gold”. These are all set in a time BEFORE The Mortal Instruments and The Dark Artifice series, so you won’t get any spoilers and you’ll meet and learn family lines that you’ll love through ALL the books. . #chainofgold #cassandraclare #thelasthours #shadowhunters #jamesherondale #cordeliacarstairs #jemcarstairs #willherondale
