What’s one invention that you’re super grateful for? I’m really grateful for the ability to video chat. Most of my friends and family live far from me, and the ability to video chat has erased the miles between us in many ways. . “Edison” by Edmund Morris is a book that I specifically requested to read (thank you @penguinrandomhouse for gifting it to me) I am fascinated by his work and the controversies around him. Edison is probably most known for giving us universal electric light— but did you know that he patented 1,093 inventions, not including others, like the X-Ray fluoroscope, which he left unlicensed for the benefit of medicine. . The phonograph, universal stock ticker, electric meter, jumbo dynamo, alkaline reversible battery, miner’s safety lamp, slick candy wrappers, cream for facial neuralgia, submarine blinding device, night telescope, electro graphic vote recorder, rotoscoped-lift flying machine, sensor capable of registering heat of starlight… these are just a few of the things he invented. He even pioneered advances in the synchronization of movies and sound. . This author, Edmund Morris, is the Pulitzer Prize winning author of the Theodore Roosevelt Trilogy and put seven years of research among five million pages of original documents that were preserved in Edison’s laboratory and had access to family papers still held in trust. This book not only covers his inventions, but the synopsis says that Morris will sweep aside conspiracy theories about enmity between Edison and Tesla with proof of their mutually admiring relationship— as well as talk about his family life. I can’t imagine being his wife. haha. With six kids and a husband busy with invention… I can imagine it was a constant juggling act of pride and frustration. I’m really looking forward to giving this one a read this year! . #thomasedison #edison #edmundmorris #biography #vintagebooks #maps #bookstack #amreading #booksbooksbooks #readmorebooks
