My first read & review of 2020! I didn’t plan on flying through this book so quickly, but it should be an indication of how much I enjoyed this book! #mentallybookedreviews Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid | 4.5🌟 From the title & cover of this book, you would think that it’s a cute light contemporary about two women loving and living life. However Reid covers some heavy topics in this book. Alix, a wealthy white mother & blogger, is struggling with insecurities and maintaining what she thinks is a perfect image for her family and career. Alix hires a babysitter, Emira, a young black women, who despite having two jobs is struggling financially and with what she wants to do with her life. As their lives intersect, this story addresses a lot of intersectionality of class, race, and gender between Alix & Emira. I think what I loved most about this book is Reid created such multi-dimensional characters where we can understand their choices even if we disagree with them. Such a Fun Age is also @literaryleague ‘s book club pick for January! So I highly recommend you join us this month because I know the discussions for this will be amazing!
