Were you part of any clubs or groups in school? I was pretty dedicated to my band life in High School so I didn’t have time for much else. In college I was part of a group we called the Frasority. (Combo of Fraternity and Sorority) 😂🤷🏻‍♀️. It was really just a big group of friends that got together to do trips and other fun things together. Anyway, it was all very low key and fun stuff compared to the stuff that goes down in the secret societies at Yale in “Ninth House”. (Thank you to @macmillan .audio for providing me with an audio ARC of this book.) . I’m not going to say too much about “Ninth House” because I think the majority of us who have been waiting for this day to come don’t want any spoilers. (But I will give a brief run down in the next paragraph for anyone who wants to skip it!) I will say that after years of listening to Leigh Bardugo speak at events or online, and reading all her books, “Ninth House” was still so very Bardugo in the best way! . This is the kind of book that isn’t for everyone with its dark themes and scenes. There were a lot of times where it was uncomfortable and hard to read. I was often really angry, too. There is blood, murder, rape, drugs, and demons of all kinds. And while I’ve no desire at all to ever go near Yale after reading this, I was sucked into this story, the plot, and the mystery. Amid the demons and ghosts, Leigh also covers white male privilege, the privilege of the wealthy, and focuses on healing and friendship and rebuilding a life, among other things. I was low key nervous about this book because I spook easily at ghosty type things, but the truth is, the real horrors here weren’t the dead. I was less scared and more revved up for justice. I’m looking forward to the next book very much and to see how Alex’s journey continues. . #ninthhouse #leighbardugo #fallreading #darkacademia #Octobertbr #bookaesthetic #alwaysreading
