★★★.5/5 | I’m so sad because I REALLY wanted to love this book. When I first heard about this book, I was told it was a gender-swapped Lord of the Flies-esque story, but I’d disagree with that. The first 50 or so pages were a little slow and hard to get through because it felt like you were thrown into the story rather than introduced. There is a whirlwind of weirdness happening that you have to adjust to, but the premise was so intriguing that I just kept going. The middle bulk of this book was so intriguing and I flew through it, but I still feel like a lot things weren’t fleshed out. For instance, Hetty and Byatt are supposed to have this friendship better described as sisterhood. However, we aren’t really shown anything that would solidify that— we’re basically supposed to take Hetty’s word for it. In fact, Byatt’s perspective does little to nothing to even convince us they’re little more than friends. And this ending...... ugh! I just wanted so much more. Unfortunately though, I was left and confused and with more questions than I had at the start. ⋒ I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but if you’ve read this and you want to chat, DM me! • #wildergirls #bookstagram #books #bookblogging #igreads #instareads #bibliophile #fallreads
