Tell me who some of your favorite accounts are for book reviews, recommendations, and discussion! . 🚫📚 Even though I already talked about banned books in my review of “Suggested Reading” the other day, I felt like I couldn’t let Banned Book week close out without an official post. I was recently gifted the 20th Anniversary edition of one of my favorite banned books by @gallerybooks , “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky and couldn’t think of a better time to showcase it. (The anniversary edition contains a new letter from Charlie. His first letter in 20 years. I’m not even going to hint at or spoil what this letter contains, but I loved reading it and I loved its addition.) . This book has been banned and challenged several times, and I get it. I get the reasons why parents would find concern in this story. But I still stand by saying that instead of banning a book from everyone, the conversation should be in-home. And I think we can all agree that books need a better labeling/shelving system. This is another reason I’m grateful to this community as well. Thank you for your good and honest reviews. Thank you for your trigger warnings, your comments on questionable content, and the conversations about which NA books should not be shelved in the YA section. haha. . A good friend of mine recommended Perks to me back in 2002. I was 18 and had been basically a fantasy-only reader. This book blew my eyes wide open to SO many things in a real world context that I had not really spent time thinking of at that time. I will forever consider this one of those book that made me more aware of people and the world, whereas before I was reading mostly to get lost in fantasy worlds. . 🚫📚 #theperksofbeingawallflower #stephenchbosky #bannedbooksweek #specialedition #anniversaryedition #typewriter #amreading #amwriting
